The CTI Learning Institute is now offering courses for private industry, industrial and environmental engineering firms, independent professionals and others! Courses provided by CTI include:

Identification and Management of Contaminated Lands

(Half Day)

The course includes many colour slides of actual environmental issues photographed by certified environmental assessors at a variety of sites in Ontario.

The visuals are accompanied by detailed instructor dialogue describing the issue, providing an explanation of the associated risk and focusing on the application of a risk model. Often, the slides will generate many questions from participants that relate to their personal experiences. The questions and instructor feedback are followed by a group discussion, and the determination of risk for specific examples tabled by the participants. This exercise provides value added information that may be used by the participant and their clients.

The course includes information on, reading aerial photographs, topographic maps, EcoLog ERIS reports and other relevant sources of useful environmental information.

Assessing and Managing Environmental Risk (One Day)

Upon completion of this course the participants should be able to identify environmental issues at a variety of sites, evaluate the associated risk, and will have an understanding of the regulations and standards that are applicable to the subject property and the specific environmental issue that have been identified. This course includes a short quiz.

Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Course, Part I (Three Days)

The course is based on the CSA 768-01 Standard for conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments in Canada. Participants will review the Standard, learn how to identify environmental issues, determine risk and document the findings in accordance with the Standard. This hands on course requires participants to read aerial photographs, use topographic maps, access regulatory information, obtain information form private sources, conduct interviews and evaluate relevant documentation. The course has been developed with the philosophy that doing is learning. This course includes an exam.

Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Course, Practical, Part II (Two Days)

Part II is the actual site inspection that follows the Part I course. In addition, participants will begin to prepare a Phase I report. Instructor support and guidance is provided throughout the course. Participants will conduct a site visit at a pre-selected property and interview with knowledgeable persons to obtain historical information. All background information and documents will be provided.

Basics of Fall Protection (Half Day)

The course has been developed in accordance with the requirements of Section 26 of the Construction Regulation, Ontario Regulation 213/91. Instructors use visuals and props to demonstrate the proper use and maintenance of safety equipment. Participants will learn about their legal responsibilities, fall prevention, fall arrest, emergency rescue planning and will be required to complete a short quiz. Upon successful completion of this course participants will be issued a wallet certification card for presentation to an MOL inspector, if proof of training is requested.
